June is Bustin’ Out All Over …..

It’s June .. let us all bust out in song:

“All =
Look around! Look around! Look ‘around!

Nettie =
June is bustin’ out all over
All over the meadow and the hill!
Buds’re bustin’ outa bushes
And the rompin’ river pushes
Ev’ry little wheel that wheels beside the mill!

June is bustin’ out all over
The feelin’ is gettin’ so intense,
That the young Virginia creepers
Hev been huggin’ the bejeepers
Outa all the mornin’ glories on the fence!
Because it’s June…

All =
June, June, June
Just because it’s June, June, June!”

A beautiful song, lyrics and musical, “Carousel”, Rodgers and Hammerstein …..

Yes, it’s June and week 5 of the market.  The first 2 weeks brought out familiar and new faces to our market and the pace aroused the hope of a terrific season.  We took a chance one week before opening day and reestablished ourselves under the canopy of trees in the Buck Mtn Parish Hall parking lot.  As it turns out, as fate will have it, it remains a better fit for our ever fluid market.

I think we shall now consider it home.  And ….

June, June, June is bustin’ out all over.   We happily welcome back Harold, John, Chris and Annie of Sylvanaqua Farms, Rose of Buck Mtn Farm, Samara of Lettuce Grow Farm, Karen with Rocky Road Produce, Ben’s Baked Goods, Little Neva’s Bakery and The Roper Family.  New thus far this season are Priya and Savi.    We are merry!      AND …

mkt5.28.15So June is bustin’ out, the vendors may bust out in song, our veggies, fruit, local beef, chicken and pork barbecue are bustin’ out along with Jammie Cookies, Madeleines, quick breads, vegetarian cuisine, EGGS, plants and so much more to bust out!

Waxing Nostalgic …. market from the past

So here is a taste of nostalgia.   Our set up from , hmmm, maybe 3 – 4 years ago?   In the parking lot at the main intersection in Earlysville, on the right just after passing Earlysville Rd & Earlysville forest Dr / Reas Ford Rd.   Remember??  Yeah, such good memories of days gone by at the market.

So we will set up this year either near the building on either side of the sidewalk or at the very end of the lot.  You’ll see us regardless and hopefully will also see our sign shortly.   Until May 7th!

We have moved again! Just across the vast parking lot!!

We are back at our first year location and hopefully we will stay there for seasons to come.  We are now next to Whytes store ( formerly! ), on the grass, set up on either side of the service road.  That is on the opposite side of the property from last years’ location.  YOU CAN”T MISS OUR TENTS and vehicles.  Lots of room for customer parking, maneuvering and vendors.

We currently have approximately 21 vendors signed up so please stop in regularly to experience our variety.  Hopefully we will have pictures soon!  Expect to see Tall Cotton Farm for a wonderful meat selection; beef, chicken, pork, eggs.  They were with us during our first year and we are very pleased to have them back with us.  PLANTS, lovely, thriving potted plants, flowers and young Japanese Maples, Duck eggs, candles,  pulled pork barbecue and so much more!

Dinner ingredients abound at our market!  Healthful food with dessert available!  Come by, we’d love to see you!

Fruit and vegetables can actually make you glow!

There are so many reasons to eat lots of fresh, crisp vegetables and fruit, especially locally grown, as we all know.   Vibrant colors,  aromatic, so fine to look at,  the minerals and vitamins seem to jump out at you.   You can taste them as you chew!    Remember digestion starts in the mouth, so make sure to chew 50 – 100 times.  That is difficult, you really have to concentrate, which means you take your time therefore perhaps it could be a weight loss technique!  Naturally veggies have a high water content, so they fill you up and are low in calories so you can eat lots.   Fruit does contain more calories and is a simple carbohydrate but imparts quite a lot of healthful benefits.  It is much better to eat the whole fruit as opposed to juice because you have the benefit of the fiber.   So apparently, as you will read in the article below, when you eat more fruit and veggies, 2 extra servings, you will notice a change in your skin….. you exhibit a healthy glow and we’re not talking radioactive!    We’re talking happy skin, which is the largest organ of your body.

fruit, vegetables, skin, tone, attractive, pretty, beautiful,.   from ‘Wellbeing’

soft and moist, slightly sweet melons

tomatoes and squash, great in salads, soups, sauteed, sauces

So, make sure to stop often and stock up on our fruit and veggies.   Make your skin happy!  Smile, you’re feel good, inside and out!

the market IS OPEN!! Stop by!
