Planning for the 2013 Season is under way!

Happy March to you all!

The market will open on Thursday, APRIL 25th BUT we will move from last year’s location back to Buck Mountain Episcopal Church, nestled under the canopy of trees in the Parish Hall parking lot. Because of changes taking place in the ‘downtown hub’ of Eville, we found it necessary to move as I alluded to in my earlier post. We are a wandering market but absolutely the best market to find wonderful produce, baked goods, plants, artisan wares, good cheer and community spirit.

I will not be managing the market this season. John Faulknier, our #1 Favorite Vendor for 2011 ( #2 last year) has agreed to step into the role along with his wife Pat. They have been a solid cornerstone to the Earlysville Farmers Market and I do appreciate their assisting me with this position. You will recognize them as our produce and Pork Barbecue vendors. They help make our market one of the most friendly, cohesive markets in the area. We radiate ‘good vibes’! Yes!!! Applications have gone out and soon John will be assembling our merry group.

Come see us, look for our green banner and cheerful tents, smiling faces and wonderful products!! Buck Mtn Episcopal Church can be found at 4167 Earlysville Road. The white w/ red door Parish Hall is just beyond the main Church parking lot on the right.

Winter is here and snow is on the way

I have stepped away from this blog, given the fact that our market is closed for the season but Happy New Year to all might find this post in their email inbox or happen upon it as you cruise the web!

To recap, our pumpkin day was very successful, approximately 30 children came to decorate pumpkins. Because I have been unable to attend the market I do not have pictures to share but I am sure you can conjure up images of pipe cleaners, paints, stickers and other paraphernalia flying as the kids worked their magic on their respective pumpkins. It certainly is a pleasure to offer this event to the kids.

There are some new, exciting happenings occurring in Eville, so right now I have yet to verify that the market will open in the same location. There are also new FDA regulations on the horizon which may affect farmers markets, so I will keep everyone informed as soon as I have information to share. Meanwhile, as I m grabbing my snow shovel from the shed so it’s handy for the potential snowfall, I have picked a new colander full of mixed greens from my sleeping garden. So refreshing and cheerful to see the array of green leaves popping up from the ground and equally as refreshing to consume them!

To contrast that lettuce mix, I have included a picture of our Christmas tree, which is still up, still fragrant, too fresh to throw out, left rejected & forgotten. I have it lit up today since it is such a dark dreary, wet day. Enjoy yourself and I’ll be in touch! Happy snow!

Farmers Market Manager Update

As we come closer to the end of the 2012 season I want to thank all of our supportive customers and our loyal, fabulous vendors. Our last day for this season will be October 18th. We have been very fortunate this year experiencing more agreeable weather, more customers and a marvelous variety of produce, plants, pulled pork, baked goods, artisan wares and other handmade / grown items. We do miss the Ren Man, Tom Curtis, whose fragrant soaps and lotions wafted throughout our market area. He has rejoined the workforce!! We wish him well. The return to our old location has brought us luck and provides us with a much more comfortable, inviting set up area. We thank Mr Whyte for this move. We are grateful that Tall Cotton, has been able to join us once again and it was through their suggestion, we now have a new, proud feather banner alerting everyone as they enter Earlysville, that the market is in full swing. P & J Greenhouse has graced us with their presence & healthy lovely plants. Congratulations to them on securing a VDACS inspection enabling them to sell Salsa & Pesto . A WIN WIN situation for all.

As the manager of the market as well as owner/baker of Little Neva’s Bakery, I have unfortunately been unable to attend the market since May. I am the caregiver for my elderly mother and regret that I will not be back this season. I really do miss the camaraderie of our super vendors and the interaction with customers. I look forward to next year! I’d like to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to Michelle Brubeck for taking hold of the market reigns in my absence. You are doing a super job!!

In the meantime …. we will once again offer the popular event of choosing your Favorite Vendor. Voting will begin on September 27th and end on October 4th, our Pumpkin Day! We will put out the ballots at the front of our market row. Results of the voting will be announced on October 11th, so come by and cast your vote for your favorite vendor!!

OUR 3rd ANNUAL “PUMPKIN DAY AT THE MARKET” at Earlysville Farmers Market will be held on THURSDAY, October 4^th.

Bring your children or grandchildren for a fun event decorating a new crop of pumpkins. We provide the pumpkins and supplies to use. Pumpkin Day will occur during regular market hours from 4 –7 pm on Thursday. We continue to offer fresh local produce, fruits, eggs, a variety of baked goods, breads, herbal lotions & soaps, unique artisans wares and more each week on Thursdays from 4 – 7 pm through mid October.

VA Farmers Market Week … celebratory atmoshere at Earlysville Market

We had a fun day at the market during Farmers Market Week. In addition to our wonderful group of vendors we offered a raffle for our customers, the lucky winner receiving $30 in Market Money, to be spent on any of our vendor products. The kids had fun with an adorable animal sign where you could be either of 2 animals by putting your head through the sign, tick tac toe toss and face painting also provided enjoyment for our visitors.

This celebratory event will lead us toward our 3 rd annual PUMPKIN DAY which will be held on October 4th this season. We provide the pumpkins and the decorations and you provide the creative fun. Lots of area kids spent time last year putting happy faces on their pick of our small pumpkins using a variety of decorations, from paint to glitter! Here is a reminder of the memorable day below … our mascot!
